BATTLE FRONT IN FRANCE
INTRODUCTORY
In compliance with the solicitations of some of my friends, and in defiance of the protestations of others, I have printed this account of some of the uncommon incidents of a Mediterranean voyage undertaken after the close of the late war. In these days when everybody travels it would of course be folly to indulge in platitudinous descriptions of well known places or commonplace events; hence I have confined my narrative chiefly to such observations and experiences as differ from those of most travellers.
